The Vision of Ready OS (& Ultimate Buddy)

What if a Commodore 64 could feel ready - not just nostalgic?

ReadyOS is “READY.” a fast C64 environment built around an REU-first workflow. instant app switching (Alt-Tab vibe), keyboard and terminal UI first, suspend/resume, shared clipboard + history, and deep links between apps.

It will be Paired with UltimateBuddy, a LAN companion that uses Ultimate REST/DMA APIs to load/run, mount, proxy services, and power a modern dev loop maybe enabling the C64U to be a daily driver for a variety of computing tasks.

Philosophies

• Free and OpenSource (repo should be cleared up and published by March 2026)
• Keyboard First
• Full Screen Terminal UI
  • uncluttered with extra information brought up by hotkeys.. 40x25 is too limited space to overcluttered when not needed.
• Answer the question , if fast enough , can 40x25 be enough for productive computing use beyond nostalgia.
